Fredericksburg-based environmental consultant Marstel-Day doesn’t just offer green advice, but the company puts it into practice too.
The company’s employees got down on their hands and knees Friday to plant 85 trees inFredericksburgin honor of Earth Day, which is Sunday.
The staff of the Fredericksburg and Alexandria offices met at the company’s offices in the George Washington Executive Center on Princess Anne Street and set out with shoves, , gloves and an array of other tools to plant the trees with the help of Anne Little, founder of Tree Fredericksburg.
Little gave a short demonstration of the proper way to plant a tree and then everyone set out in teams of three or four people to get as many trees planted as possible.
One of the teams had Amanda Boccuti, Drew Markwood, Mike Lynch and Laurie Griffith on it, who all work in the Fredericksburg office.
They took turns digging the hole, shaking the soil away from the roots, getting the tree planted firmly, refilling the hole, putting soil and mulch in and finally putting up posts next to the tree.
In just a few hours, the team planted a handful of trees.
Boccuti, a researcher with the company, said that she appreciates the company’s commitment to Earth Day and the environment.
Lynch said that Rebecca Rubin, the company’s president and managing partner, makes sure they “put their money where their mouth is.”
The company had other Earth Day activities planned in their other offices as well.
