Lone Tree Cancels May Election « CBS Denver

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4)- The City of Lone Tree has cancelled its election next month. That’s because there weren’t enough competing candidates to complete the ballot.

According to laws in both Colorado and Lone Tree, an election may be cancelled if there is not more than one candidate per office.

The city clerk received sufficient petitions from James D. Gunning for Mayor, R. Harold Anderson for Council Member District One and Kim R. Monson for Council Member District Two. All the candidates were running for four-year terms.

No competing candidates were submitted and no affidavits for write-in candidates were received. Because of those factors the City of Lone Tree Municipal Election for May 8 was cancelled.

The Lone Tree City Council is scheduled to approve those candidates as elected at the May 1 city council meeting.

The South Suburban Parks and Recreation District and Southgate Water and Sanitation Districts Elections will still take place as scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 8 at the City of Lone Tree’s Civic Center, 8527 Lone Tree Parkway.
