PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A group of tree-lovers in Portsmouth are hoping an online petition will help them save a 90-year-old tree.The large European Copper Beech tree is located in front of South Church on South State. After issues with the tree's roots causing structural problems to the church, officials decided that the tree must be taken down. The decision came after three years of investigation and discussion.Church officials said they feel sad about removing the tree, but they said it is too big for their small church yard.More than 40 people have signed an online petition in hopes that they can stop the removal of the tree.
