One man was taken to the hospital today after his car crashed into a tree on Erie's east side.
The crash happened about 8:50 a.m. on Hess Avenue just south of Lynn Street.
Witnesses said the Buick Century struck the guide wire of a utility pole at the intersection. The car then traveled across a lawn before striking the tree in front of 659 Hess Ave.
Rick Simpkins, who was inside the house, heard and felt the crash.
"It shook the house," he said.
The driver was described as an elderly man who had attended Mass at nearby St. Casimir Catholic Church.
He was taken to UPMC Hamot by EmergyCare ambulance. His condition wasn't available.
