Girl killed by falling tree | Sonora / Tuolumne News, Sports ...

An Arnold girl was killed early Sunday morning when a tree fell through her bedroom, according to an Ebbetts Pass Fire District official.

Battalion Chief Ron Getter said emergency response personnel were dispatched at 6:27 a.m. to the home, on the 2700 block of Moran Road.

"A tree was uprooted and fell across Moran Creek impacting the house ... (the tree) impacted the child's bedroom and trapped her beneath the tree," Getter said.

He said the girl, whose age and name he could not disclose, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Getter said he did not expect to have any further information Sunday and that identification of the victim will be handled by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department. He expected to have a preliminary report on the incident available on Monday.

"Our own personnel are going to be seeking some counseling," Getter said, following the tragic event.
